Meet The Team
Tonya Clem
Executive Director, LALD, RN
Tonya Clem is the Executive Director here at Pelican Landing. Her love for serving seniors as they age began at the early age of 16. She started her career as a Nursing Assistant and immediately knew this was so much more than a job. It was a calling. She went on to receive a Registered Nurse Degree and has continued in roles where she feels she can most impact the quality and joy in the lives of those she serves.
In recent years she has also acquired her Licensed Assisted Living Director License, which brings her and her over 35 years of passion and experience to serve the Pelican Landing Community residents, families, and staff.
In her spare time Tonya enjoys spending time laughing and making memories with her family and friends. She is has married to her husband Ed for 30 years, they have 3 children, and have now been blessed with 3 grandchildren that have captured her heart! She enjoys being outdoors doing most anything but especially loves yoga, reading, camping, walking in nature, being on the water and traveling.
Matthew Jutz
Operations Manager
Matthew was born and raised in Detroit Lakes, MN. He has worked in assisted living and long-term care for 5 years as a CNA. He graduated from MSUM with a Bachelors in Finance. As the Operations Manager, Matthew can continue his passion for serving the elderly while also using his degree.
In his leisure time, Matthew cherishes moments spent with his wife, daughter, and loyal dalmatian companion, making family a top priority in his life. His commitment to his family shines through in his motivation to undertake home projects and his enjoyment of outdoor activities like camping, hiking, biking, and swimming.
Matt Seiple
Assistant Clinical Nurse Supervisor
for Assisted Living
Matt grew up around Erhard MN. He started working on a thoroughbred race horse ranch while growing up. He then switched to CNA work and has worked in healthcare for 23 years.
He was an admissions nurse for home health before coming to Pelican Landing. He has been married for 21 years and has raised three kids with my last one turning 18 in December. Most of his free time is spent fishing, hunting, and hanging out with friends and family. He has loved his time at Pelican Landing so far and wants to continue to grow a strong team while cares are being led from the heart.
Leah Green
Activities Coordinator
Leah has lived in Detroit Lakes since 2016 where she first started working as a designer for Lakeshirts/Blue 84. She was a graphic designer there for just over 4 years before she found her new calling as a care giver at Pelican Landing.
Leah was raised in Hallock, Minnesota where she graduated high school then went on to get my AAS Degree in Communication Art & Design at the Alexandria Technical and Community College. On the side, Leah enjoys photography and makes spooky, but whimsical illustrations in her spare time. All of her hobbies and side jobs come second to her husband and daughter. As a family they love to spend time together, reading books, going for walks and listening to Alternative Rock music. If you like to go to local rock n’ roll shows, she might se you there!
Sherri Zaeske
Administrative Assistant
Sherri lives on her family farm by Audubon. She comes from a small family made up of a brother, niece and nephew but has many long live friends that make up the rest of her family. She loves to travel, go to concerts, grow flowers and game nights with her family and friends. She has volunteered most of her adult life to many different organizations and benefits. Sherri has spent the past 40 plus years working in healthcare with half of that time spent in direct care giving. She enjoys helping others and making a difference in their lives. She loves animals and even gets to bring Lillie (her loving Yorkie) to work every day and share her with the residents and staff.
Joe Ronning
Maintenance Director
Joe was born in Brookings, SD. He was raised in Audubon MN with his 5 older siblings. Joe lives in Detroit Lakes, MN, with his wife. He is a father of 3 (two girls and one boy), all of which keep him on his toes. He enjoys back yard (or front yard) BBQs, eating, fishing with his best bud (his son), music (Ryan Bingham is one of his favorites), photography, rock hounding, motorcycles, telling the very best dad jokes, laughing, and making memories with his family.
Joe started out his career in 2005 as a mechanic. With experience in management, shop management, and shop repair foreman over the past 10 years in the Lakes Area.
Transitioning his career; Joe joined the Pelican Landing team in April 2024, entering his role as Maintenance Director.
Joe is eager and excited to build relationships with residents, provide safety and comfort to the PL community, maintain and maintenance the beautiful building of Pelican Landing, and serve with heart.
Joe Heinz
DPT
With a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Jamestown, earned in 2021, and a Bachelor's in Exercise Science from Concordia College, earned in 2018, Joe Heinz brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to his practice. Joe’s approach to rehabilitation is rooted in a function-first perspective, prioritizing the restoration and enhancement of functional movement to help individuals achieve their full potential. Professional Philosophy Joe is dedicated to empowering patients of all ages to lead active, fulfilling lives. His practice is centered around personalized care, understanding that each patient's journey is unique. By focusing on functional movement, Joe helps individuals recover from injuries, manage chronic conditions, and improve their overall mobility. He emphasizes strength, flexibility, and resilience to enhance quality of life and maintain independence. Joe is committed to guiding his patients through every step of their recovery, ensuring they gain the confidence and tools necessary to stay active and healthy.
Personal Interests, Joe is a former college wrestler and currently coaches wrestling, bringing a wealth of experience to his practice. He is also an avid CrossFit enthusiast, appreciating how the sport emphasizes functional movements and overall fitness. This passion translates into his professional practice, where he incorporates functional training principles to help patients improve their strength, mobility, and endurance. Outside of his athletic pursuits, Joe enjoys various outdoor activities, such as hiking and camping, which further underscore his commitment to an active lifestyle.
Nicki Mazour
DPT
Nicki grew up in Moorhead, MN. However, she equally considers Detroit Lakes her home as she grew up spending many weekends with her family on Big Floyd Lake just north of DL. Nicki attended the University of Minnesota Crookston for her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences and then later graduated from the University of North Dakota with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree.
In addition to being licensed for PT in both North Dakota and Minnesota, Nicki is also a certified LSVT BIG therapist which provides her with additional training to work with those diagnosed with Parkinson’s and other similar conditions. While she enjoys working with a variety of patient populations, she especially loves the older population and has a passion for helping people get stronger and reach their goals for staying active and healthy.
Nicki has always loved the Detroit Lakes community and finds great fulfillment in being able to serve members of this community through her career as a physical therapist. In her free time, Nicki enjoys spending time with family and friends and being outdoors, especially at the lake. Her hobbies include biking, crafting (sewing, crocheting, embroidery, etc.), reading, paddle boarding, and hiking when she gets the chance to travel. She strives to use her role as a PT to help others continue doing the hobbies they love and care about.

Katelyn Boehm
Assistant Clinical Nurse Supervisor
for Memory Care
Katelyn has been a part of the Pelican Landing team since 2021, initially serving as a Support Nurse and then advancing to her role as the Assistant Clinical Nurse Supervisor for Pelican Landing’s Woodland Memory Care unit in 2023. Her passion for dementia care shines through her dedication to enhancing the quality of life for her residents and helping them comfortably age in place in their home at Pelican Landing.
When she’s not at work, Katelyn cherishes family time with her husband Anthony, daughter Emerson, and is joyfully anticipating the arrival of their second daughter in June 2024.

Ashley Johnson-Vik
Activities Coordinator
for Woodland Community
Ashley is the Woodland Community Activity Coordinator. She loves spending quality time with her residents, listening to their stories, and obtaining the wisdom they have to offer. Working at Pelican Landing has given her the opportunity to build a strong connection with the residents she serves!
Ashley resides in New York Mills, MN where she lives with her two dogs, Rocket and Gimli. In her free time, she enjoys going to state parks, and being with her dogs as well as her family.
Makenzie Teigen
Staffing Specialist
Meet Makenzie, our Staffing Specialist here at Pelican Landing. She started as an activity coordinator as well as working on the floor in the memory care unit before accepting her current position.
Makenzie is from Fargo ND, she moved around a bit in MN until making her way back to Detroit Lakes. As a mom of two girls, Kendal (6yrs) and Haven (2yrs) she would like her daughters to grow up surrounded with family and friends here.
Some goals Makenzie has set in place as the Staffing Specialist are to offer the opportunity for our staff to have flexible scheduling, appreciation outings and team bonding. Hire quality employees and team members to give quality care to our residents here at Pelican Landing. Lastly, give our staff the opportunity to have lifelong careers and grow within.
Trisa Hutchinson
OTD, OTR/L, Cert-MMOA, CF-L1
Trisa was born and raised in Detroit Lakes. She attended NDSU in Fargo, ND for her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Science with a minor in Psychology. She went on to receive her Doctorate of Occupational Therapy degree from the University of Mary at the Fargo campus, and is grateful to serve her home town through OT.
Trisa is a certified level I trainer for CrossFit and on faculty for Institute of Clinical Excellece, teaching about the Modern Management of Older Adults in her time outside of Progressive Care Therapy. She has a passion for spreading and living the message that old does NOT equal weak and enjoys helping individuals reach their goals!
Trisa loves spending time with her friends and family outdoors, especially on the lake. She also enjoys doing CrossFit and golfing during her free time. Her passion is to promote independence and well-being through functional engagement in life activities, and she would love to work with you.
Marcie Peeters
PTA/L
Marcie grew up in Detroit Lakes. She attended Lake Superior College in Duluth, MN to attain her associates degree. She moved back to Detroit Lakes after college and has been a physical therapist assistant in her hometown for the past 20 years. She is married to her husband Andy, and they have 3 children. Marcie enjoys spending time with her family on the lake. She also enjoys running, yoga, gardening, camping and attending all her kids’ sporting events.
Marcie has a passion for helping others and thoroughly enjoys working with older adults. She appreciates getting to know each of her patients and discovering what brings them joy. She values health and quality of life! She wants to help her patients be able to do all the activities that are meaningful to them. She would love to help you reach your therapy goals!
Grace Nemec
COTA/L
Grace was born and raised in Detroit Lakes. She attended Northland community and technical college in East Grand Forks where she received her degree as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. She is grateful to have been able to move back to Detroit Lakes and provide services to those in her community.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family. Outside of work over the past year she built her own home start to finish! She hopes this summer with her house being done she will be able to get out on the lake. She would love to assist you toward your goals for participation and independence in your life activities we well.

Scholarship Opportunity
Pelican Landing holds a special scholarship fund through West Central Initiative reserved for employees. Employees must be enrolled in course work or program, completed probationary period, and plan to work at Pelican Landing 12 months after receiving the scholarship.
